Overview/Background:

Our client, an international non-profit development and advocacy organization, was dedicated to ensuring its operations and mission were conducted through an anti-racist and intersectional lens. However, they faced challenges in developing an effective racial equity (RE) roadmap and aligning their team culture with this important perspective. To advance their commitment to racial equity, they engaged Dionne's expertise.

Objectives:

The primary objectives were:

  • To examine and strengthen the connection of anti-racism to the organization’s mission.

  • To draft a comprehensive RE roadmap that incorporated learnings from previous work.

  • To conduct an anti-racist and intersectional baseline assessment of the team culture within the organization.

  • To develop a recommended framework and roadmap to guide their future advocacy campaigns.

  • Strategies and Implementation:

  • Dionne assembled a 20-person cross-functional committee that was tasked with drafting the RE roadmap. This committee worked intensively to interrogate key questions, recommend critical actions, and identify key outputs and metrics that would form the backbone of their future operations.

Dionne further collaborated with a 15-person team to conduct a comprehensive anti-racist and intersectional baseline assessment. This assessment, which took into account the unique team culture of the organization, served as the basis for developing a tailored framework and roadmap for future advocacy campaigns.

Results:

The outcomes of Dionne's interventions were multi-faceted. The draft plan for the RE roadmap effectively encapsulated the organization's commitment to racial equity and provided a detailed overview of their strengths, opportunities, and key areas of focus such as leadership and strategy, stakeholder engagement, and internal systems and culture.

The anti-racist and intersectional assessment led to the creation of a robust framework and roadmap, paving the way for more effective advocacy campaigns in the future.

Client Feedback:

The organization was deeply appreciative of Dionne's work, praising her thorough approach and the practicality of the tools she developed. They felt better equipped to align their mission and operations with their commitment to racial equity and intersectionality, and were excited about the potential impact of their future advocacy campaigns.

Conclusion:

This case underscores the depth and range of Dionne's expertise in racial equity, team culture development, and strategic planning. Her ability to facilitate the creation of robust roadmaps and frameworks enables organizations to concretely incorporate anti-racism and intersectionality into their operations.
